Rosy Simas (choreographer/director) is Seneca, of the Cattaraugus reservation in New York. Simas trained in theater/dance in Minneapolis, New York and San Francisco. Most influential in her training has been Nita Little, Suzanne River, Barbara Mahler and Susan Klein. Her choreography has been presented in New York, Minnesota, Wisconsin, California in the US and in Montréal, QC. Until her recent return to the Twin Cities she taught regular Body Re-Education and Contemporary dance classes in Montréal at Studio 303, Circuit-Est, Centre Kinesphére and Mange Mes Pied. Rosy currently teaches Advanced Modern at Zenon and Body Re-Education at the Fallout studio in Minneapolis, MN. Rosy maintains a private bodywork practice, Blue Heron Bodywork.
Lindsay Anderson (performer) earned B.A. degrees in dance and English from the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point. After college, she continued to train and perform in Chicago, IL prior to moving to Minneapolis. Lindsay has recently performed with Kinetic Evolutions Dance Company, directed by Sarah Larose-Holland. Last spring, she performed the work of choreographer Jesse Neumann-Peterson in the 9X22 Dance Lab. Lindsay has presented her own work at the In Motion Dance Series, Kinetic Kitchen Dance Series at Patrick’s Cabaret, the Phipps Center for the Arts, Hudson, and the Ritz Theatre, Minneapolis.
Elizabeth June Bergman (performer) recently relocated to Minneapolis and is happy to be dancing with so many terrific people. She holds a MFA in dance from the University of Iowa and a BA from DeSales University in Pennsylvania. She’s recently performed in Chicago’s Same Planet Different World Dance Theater’s Minnesota Fringe show, participated in a dance film with the April Seller’s Dance Collective, and performed her own work in John Munger’s The Rabbit Show.
Natalie Brown (performer) moved to Minneapolis ten years ago from her hometown of Mankato. She graduated with a BFA in dance from the U of M and shortly after became a member of Jazzdance by Danny Buraczeski. She now teaches Jazz at Waconia Performing Arts Center. She is grateful for all the opportunities and the diverse, loving community that the Twin Cities has provided for her through the arts. Her newest endeavors included choreographing the musical “Urinetown” and teaching a modern dance class for Gustavus Adulphous in St. Peter starting in January 2010. She is also a certified Gyrotonic instructor.
Nicole Curry (performer) is an artist, dancer, reader and consumer. She moved to Minneapolis in January after graduating from the dance program at Minnesota State University, Mankato. Recently she has added to her performance experience by working with choreographers and companies including Daniel Stark, Erin Drummond, Sarah Jacobs, Labor Force Dances and Wicked Sister Dance Company. She is looking forward to tomorrow when more things will continue to happen.
Erin Drummond (performer) is delighted to be working with Rosy and this wonderful group of dancers. She received her B.A. in Dance from Columbia University and has since been choreographing, training, and performing in New York, Bangkok, and Minneapolis. She is dedicated to the continual unfolding of these crafts. She enjoys spending time outdoors, practicing yoga, and learning movement technique from Radica, the cat.
Denise Gagner (performer) has had the pleasure of working with and learning from many Minneapolis artists including Sherry Saterstrom, HIJACK, Jane Shockley, Erin Thompson, Megan Flood, Sarah Jacobs, Cindy Stevens, Suzanne River, and Three Dances. She is a founding member of Ready at Will Dance Collective (RAW), a teacher at several Montessori schools, Valley Dance and Arts Academy, Young Dance, and Zenon where she is also the School Coordinator. Denise holds a B.A. in Dance from St. Olaf College. This is her first performance with Rosy Simas and it has been a pleasure.
Prem Govindaswamy (understudy) studied Dance and Art at the University of Minnesota. He has performed in Erica Pinigis’ Ooh La Lounge, Suzanne Wiltgen’s Cast of Dancing Delights, understudied for work with Robin Steihm, worked with Jesse Peterson, choreographed solo work and performed in Zenon’s Block E performances, among other things. He is currently working on his own choreography, as well as visual artwork.
Mandy Herrick (performer) has been dancing most her life in a plethora of places - the stage, a toilet, a busy intersection, a prairie and her own kitchen. In Minneapolis, she has performed with Ready At Will Dance Collective (founding member and co-director), the BodyCartography Project, Rosy Simas Danse and Vessel Performance. She has been a guest artist at Luther College, GLACIER (Contact Improvisation Retreat), Young Dance and the Zenon Dance Scholarship Program. She is a Certified Global Somatics(TM) Movement Educator and Practitioner, holds a B.A. in Dance from Luther College and works at the Interact Center for Visual and Performing Art.
Jennifer Mack (performer) spent the last 6 years as a soloist with the Continental Ballet Company and was last seen in Cathy Wright's fringe show, 'Thrower of Light'. This is her 5th performance with Rosy Simas including traveling to Montreal last October. She's also performed in Hungary & Ireland and done guest artist work with several local companies & choreographers. Her own choreography has appeared on various stages in MN in collaboration with local musicians 'Ada Jane' & Ben Siems. You can catch her next at the Red Eye Theater with Offleash Area in 'The Jury'. Nancy Nair (oerformer) is full of thanks for the opportunity to work with Rosy on this work. She began her dance training in Minneapolis with Zenon Ballet, MDT and Zenon. She went on to study at the U of MT, then on to New York where she had the chance to train with Merce Cunningham Dance Company, Erick Hawkins, and Jose Limon. Nancy currently lives in Minneapolis and works as a Resident Artist at Stages Theatre and an instructor at The Children’s Theatre. Her choreographic work has been most recently seen with Stages Theatre, Nautilus Musical Theatre’s Rough Cuts, and Morris Park Players. Nancy spends most of her time enjoying her two beautiful boys, Jude and Dimitri.
Sharon Picasso (performer) received her degree in dance and choreography from The Boston Conservatory. Since relocating to Minnesota, she has had the pleasure of working with Rosy Simas Danse, Movement Architecture, Cathy Wright, DAdance, Hauser Dance Company, Dawn Strom, Matthew Smith and Ben Seims. Tim Rehborg (performer) is a dancer and choreographer displaced far from his native San Diego. He received his degree in English and dance from St. Olaf College in 2008, and since then has enjoyed working with many artists in the Twin Cities, including Cathy Wright, Jessica Ann Briggs, Rosy Simas and Erin Drummond. He co-directs TAJIMdances with his artistic partner Taja Will, making collaborative and improvisational dance theatre works. He has performed and shown work in Minneapolis, LA, at the American Dance Festival in Durham, and at Performatica dance festival in Cholula, Mexico.Moving Arts.
Mark Ruark (sound - 2007) has been working in the Twin Cities as a designer/technician/stage manager/musician for seven years now. He has worked with Live Action Set, Jon Ferguson, Wicked Sister Dance Theater, JAZZDANCE!, Arena Dances, Deborah Jinza Thayer's Movement Architecture and Catalyst Dances as well as local artists Christopher Hauseman and Britta Hallin. In his “spare” time, he is spearheading a sound collaboration project called Liars' Conspiracy. He is also the resident lighting designer/stage manger for XELIAS Aerial Performance Company and a member of the Monday Night Band Club.
